Budapest in 5 days


Arriving in Budapest airport we found our shuttle and checked into the hotel right in the center. It turned out to be a great choice - near many restaurants and cafes, shopping areas and easy access to Hop on Hop off buses which took us to Buda Castle, St Mathias cathedral, Fisherman’s Bastion for great views of the city.









Also made it to the City Market, Hungarian Parliament buildings, St Stephan’s cathedral and walked many kilometers in the heat of over +27 most days. We walked so much we had very sore feet! Good beer, good coffee, very good goulash and pastries.

Did a night cruise on the Danube river and a spectacular city all lit up!

Joined our Avalon river cruise and a welcome reception outlined our next 8 days! Apparently the hot weather has created low water levels on the Danube and they have to make some modifications to our schedule. We will not end up in Nuremberg...it will be Passau, and a hotel in Prague. On Tuesday, our planned departure day, they will drive us to Nuremberg where we pick up our rental car and drive to Prague.

First night on the boat, then from Budapest to Vienna. We had 2 nights and a day in Vienna. Did a city tour and visited the local market, St Stephan's Cathedral, walking street, Rathaus (city hall), and an evening city tour with concert - a bit of Strauss, Mozart, and Liszt.


From Vienna to Durnstein - we are now in the Wachau valley where there are hills, vineyards and small villages.

We had a morning tour of Durnstein, saw the castle on the hill where Richard the Lionhearted was imprisoned for 6 months until he paid a large ransom! While on the tour we were tasting apricot schnapps and liqueur. This was a rainy walk and cooler day - finally!!

Regensburg

Regensburg and the Blue Danube! An 8:30 an start by bus from Lindau to Regensburg. About an hour an a half through Bavaria and nice hills and forests. Took the hour and a half walking tour to see the Stone bridge, Rathaus, ABC (another beautiful church!) and a delicious lunch of local Regensburger sausage, sauerkraut, buns, sweet mustard and an awesome beer! We left in the morning on a small vehicle transfer to Nuremburg to pick up our rental card which turned out to be a standard Nissan X trail, a nice mid size car for all our driving! Nissan X trail

Ribe to Tarm, Denmark

Ribe, Denmark We headed out on a nice sunny morning from Hamburg to Denmark. We wanted to stop in Ribe which is the oldest town in Denmark dating back to the 8th Century. It has a nice cathedral, old 16th century buildings and great pølser hot dogs! After a stop in Ribe, we headed out to Tarm, also on Jutland to visit friends and overnight there. We had lots of cold wind and rain on our next day in Tarm, but enjoyed some good meals and wine.
