Neil in Europe 2018

Passau Rathaus (city hall) Passau in lower Bavaria, Germany is known as the city of 3 rivers. It has a beautiful city hall which shows the marks of floodwaters from the Danube. The second highest flood was in 2013. Flood water marks on city hall The St. Stephen's Cathedral is a dominating church in Passau and holds the largest pipe organ in the world. The largest pipe organ in the world I used to collect beer steins, but now I just take photos!

Avalon Panaorama on the Danube After lunch, we traveled by bus for an afternoon tour of the Benedictine Abbey in Melk and dinner on board. Benedicine Abbey in Melk On through several locks to Linz , the 3rd largest city in Austria - very industrial, a technology hub and a center of Arts! Where Hitler announced the annexation of Austria in 1939 A short walk to the town square, a few nice buildings, Rathaus, and a balcony where Hitler announced the annexation of Austria. Our first night was an evening bus tour of Vienna and a concert of Liszt, Mozart and Strauss - just for our Avalon boat tour! Vienna Opera House This is not Australia! Arriving in Budapest airport we found our shuttle and checked into the hotel right in the center. It turned out to be a great choice - near many restaurants and cafes, shopping areas and easy access to Hop on Hop off buses which took us to Buda Castle, St Mathias cathedral, Fisherman’s Bastion for great views of the city. Also made it to the City Market, Hungarian Parliament buildings, St Stephan’s cathedral and walked many kilometers in the heat of over +27 most days. We walked so much we had very sore feet! Good beer, good coffee, very good goulash and pastries.  Buda Castle Did a night cruise on the Danube river and a spectacular city all lit up! Apparently the hot weather has created low water levels on the Danube and they have to make some modifications to our schedule. We will not end up in Nuremberg...it will be Passau, an...

Europe 2018 Durnstein Castle Preparations made for our Europe adventure. Celebrating 40 years, Gloria and I are off to Europe - Budapest first for 5 days, then boarding an AMA riverboat on the Danube for 8 days, then driving through Germany and to visit friends in Denmark.  Cities visited: Budapest, Hungary Vienna, Austria Durnstein Melk Linz Engelhartzell Passau, Germany Regensburg Nuremburg Prague, Czech Republic Terazin (Theresienstadt) Dresden, Germany Leipzig Berlin Hamburg Ribe, Denmark Tarm Ishøj  Copenhagen
